FAQ

1. How many children are in your care?

At any given time I will care for up to 6 children plus my own.

2. How long have you been in business?

Since August 2013

3. What kind of activities will my child be doing during the day?

I believe in spending lots of time outdoors when the weather permits which includes lots of trips to the park and picnics outside, tobogganing in the winter and much more. When we are indoors we will spend our time doing crafts, fun messy play (like finger paints, goop and much more). We have circle time in the morning where we read books, sing songs and talk about our day. I believe in being very hands on, keeping children in my care happy, socialized, entertained and always learning

4. Are you a smoke free home?

Yes.

5. Do you have any pets?

We do have one dog. She loves all children but for liability reasons she will not have contact with them during day home hours. She will spend her days in our master bedroom (don’t worry she has plenty of space and windows)

6. What are your rates?

Please see the rates section of this website or click here.

7. What is your vacation policy?

I am closed on the following holidays with pay. Should any of these days land on a Saturday I am closed on the Friday before and if they land on a Sunday I am closed on the Monday after. The holidays include:

  • Labour Day
  • Good Friday

  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day
  • New Years Eve

I will always notify parents of any planned vacation at least 1 (one) month ahead of time. I take two weeks vacation each year and fee’s are still due during this time. I give as much notice as possible and do my best to work with parents schedules.

When you and your children are on vacation you are required to pay fee’s for any missed days as you are paying for the spot.

8. What is your policy for sick days?

I require that all children in my care have up to date vaccinations. Sick children may continue to attend my dayhome as long as they do not have a contagious illness such as:

  • Pink eye
  • scabies
  • head lice
  • impetigo
  • strep infection
  • whooping cough
  • measles/mumps
  • etc.

In the event that I am too sick to care for the children or have a contagious illness I will inform parents as early as possible so you can make alternate arrangements. Fees must still be paid for sick days.

9. Do you charge a holding fee?

Yes. A non-refundable deposit equivalent to 2 (two) weeks full time care is required to hold your child’s spot in the day home. This fee will be applied to your child’s first 2 (two) weeks of care.

10. Do you charge for late pick-ups?

I understand that sometimes the unexpected happens and you may be late. Please do your best to inform me as early as possible if this is going to happen. If it does become a problem I will begin to charge for late pick-ups.

The day home hours are form 7:00am to 5:00pm with some flexibility.

12. Do you provide food or do I need to supply my own?

Yes I provide all food and can accommodate special diets.

Absolutely. I have a nut allergy myself and my day home is nut free and if your child has a particular allergy I will do everything I can to accommodate the allergy.

14. What supplies do I need to bring for my child?

Depending on the age of your child you will need to bring:

  • diapers
  • bottles (if  using formula you should bring them full, pre-mixed)
  • creams (for bums)
  • sippy cup or other cup with a lid
  • extra set of clothes in case of accidents
  • outdoor clothes (hat and swim suits in the summer; boots, mittens, hats, winter jackets in the winter)

Please give one months notice if you plan to withdrawal your child from the day home. If you terminate care without notice I will keep your deposit and no refunds will be given for fees paid.

16. Will you assist with potty training?

Absolutely. We can discuss your child’s potty training and I can assist with the process and help maintain consistency.

17. How do you discipline?

Positive reinforcement and lots of it.  Time outs are taken on the thinking mat for older children, younger children are redirected.  After a child has been on the “thinking mat” I will quickly talk to them about the incident and we can move forward.

18. Can I drop by anytime?

Of course. Parents are ALWAYS welcome to drop by the day home at any time during the day. If you do come during naptime (anywhere between 1:00-3:00pm) please either knock or call me so we don’t wake up little ones.

19. How do you keep in contact with parents?

I try to keep my facebook as up to date as possible about what we get up to. I am also free to chat regarding your child’s care and how their day/week/month has gone.

20. What is your emergency plan?

In the event of an emergency I have a number of people including my husband who I will call to assist me. I also have an emergency escape plan for each level of the home. Parents are required to fill out an emergency contact form which I will keep in an easy to access place.

21. Do you let children watch television?

Sometimes. I do not make watching television a habit however there are some days when we might watch a movie together and children who do not nap during nap time may occasionally watch television during naptime.

22. What if my child needs medication during the day?

If your child requires medication while at the dayhome you must:

  • Complete and sign a permission to administer medication form and a separate Medication Administer Form which will document times, dosage and additional information.
  • Provide all medication in the original container with child’s name, name of drug, doctor’s name and telephone number

23. How often are toys cleaned/replaced?

Toys are cleaned on a weekly basis and inspected for damage that may become a hazard to children. I also pay close attention to recalls and ensure children are playing with age appropriate toys (small parts etc).

24. Do you have a nap schedule?

Yes. Nap time is after lunch which can range from 12:30pm-3:00pm. Children who are too old for a nap will participate in quiet time where they can play with quiet toys, read books, puzzles etc.

25. Where will my child be napping?

There are two rooms upstairs used for naps and toddler beds or pack n’ plays can be set up in either room depending on age of child napping. I seperate children based on how they will sleep (light/heavy – wakes up crying etc).

Absolutely. References are available on request.
